(Medieval Minaret and Roman Temple 15 km)

Take the Damascus road from Chtaura and two  kilometers before reaching the border town of Masnaa, turn left to the village of Mejdel Anjar. Situated on a strategic hill, this village has a medieval minaret and a Roman temple.
The Temple was at one time surrounded by a large walled enclosure, much of which is still in evidence. The temple cella is almost intact, but the interior and outside surfaces on the east and south walls are badly worn.  Underground passages and chambers have openings in the sanctuary floor.

The minaret, located inside the village, dates from the thirteenth century and was restored in 1959. Square in shape, it is made of well-cut masonry embellished with decorative cornices and four windows.
