Canyon
village
Mides
is
little
visited,
primarily
because
communications
here
are
bad
—
out
here
in
Sahara,
next
to
the
Algerian
border.
The
setting
of
Mides
is
striking,
and
the
surroundings
offer
splendid
scenes
for
photographers.
The
village
of
Mides
is
looking
over
a
small,
but
dramatic
canyon,
that
is
distinct
with
its
round
shapes,
and
strong
contrasts
in
colour.
The
village
is
no
more
than
a
handful
of
white
houses,
where
the
main
attraction
are
the
smiling
and
curious
children.
The
settlement
is
quite
new,
as
the
original
Mides
was
destroyed
in
1969,
when
it
rained
for
22
days |

HOTELS
AND
ALTERNATIVES
There
is
only
a
camping
ground
in
town.
It
is
basic,
but
with
friendly
staff.
If
you
want
a
hotel
for
the
night,
go
to
Tamerza
(6
km).
RESTAURANTS
AND
ALTERNATIVES
Nothing.
Go
to
Tamerza
for
this
as
well.
CHANGE
MONEY
Nothing.
Try
to
do
it
in
Tamerza,
but
don't
be
surprised
if
the
hotels
won't
do
this
for
non-residents.
In
such
a
case,
exchange
money
in
Tozeur.
TRANSPORT
No
quick
forms
of
getting
away
from
here.
Donkey
rides
for
tourists
to
Tamerza,
but
apart
from
that
you
might
have
to
resort
to
hitching. |
