Situated

plateau

Hijaz,
inland
from
the
Red
Sea,
slightly
east
of
Mecca. The economical base for At Ta'if is grains, like sorghum. wheat and rice; fruit, like grapes, oranges, dates, apricots, pomegranates, and lemon; as well as different kinds of vegetables; clay extraction, handicrafts, pottery, woven rugs, coats and attar. As is the case for Mecca, At Ta'if cannot be visited by non-Muslims. At Ta'if was ruled for centuries by Ottoman Turks, before Hussayn ibn Ali captured it in 1916. In 1924 Abdul Aziz ibn Saud, who later would become the founder of Saudi Arabia, included the city into his kingdom. |
