Valley Convent

    North of Hamat in the Koura area is the picturesque Greek Orthodox convent of Kaftoon. Turn right after leaving the north edge of Kaftoon village on a road that winds down into the valley. The convent is a large building set against dramatic red cliffs and surrounded by a garden of fruit and olive trees. You can visit its little chapel, which has part of the roof cut from the rock.
